Chemung County Legislator Rodney J. Strange announced his support for Proposition #1 which authorizes casino gaming in New York state.
The proposition will appear on the November 5th election ballot. If the ballot proposition is approved on November 5th, it would give authorization to establish up to seven Full Gaming Licenses in Non-Native American Compact Zones.
Supporters say approval of the proposition would mean 10,000 new, permanent jobs for New Yorkers, increased tourism revenue, over $200 million in new funding for our schools, $1.6 billion in construction spending and state and local tax relief.
“In Chemung County, we stand to receive an estimated $2.2 million from the state annually. This will help county taxpayers and school districts as we struggle to improve our economic condition during these tough economic times,” 15th District Legislator Rodney J. Strange said. “I urge the voters to support Proposition #1 on Nov. 5th. We need this financial benefit to help keep property taxes from rising and increases in tourism dollars coming into our community,” Strange said “We need the jobs that this would help to create. Tioga Downs is ready to start construction as soon as the proposition is passed on a $60 million expansion. We need to pass this and get the economic impact in motion”
