The Chemung County Legislature voted September 10th to support an Inter-municipal Agreement between the Town of Southport and Chemung County for a Resident Deputy for the town.

The new agreement extends for two more years the Resident Deputy Program in the Town of Southport. The program allows for a Chemung County Sheriff’s Deputy to work specifically within the town. Southport pays the county $103,000.00 annually for each year of the agreement. The town provides the vehicle for the deputy which is an acctual Sheriff’s Office SUV.

“This program provides excellent law enforcement coverage for the town,” 15th District Legislator Rodney J. Strange said. “With the additional support from routine patrols by the Sheriff’s Office and New York State Police, Southport is protected very well. I strongly support this program and will continue to work with the town and Sheriff Moss to keep it in Southport.”
