The next phase of cleanup of the former Sperry Remington ground contamination is set to begin soon.  Residents along Coldbrook Creek, which is classified as contaminated by the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation, have received letters asking for permission to have their properties sampled.

The letter from Geosyntec Consultants, an environmental firm from Minnesota, has been sent to residents who own property adjacent to the creek. In the letter it it states that the company is doing the test on behalf of the Unisys Corporation the current owners of the of the former Sperry Remington company.  Unisys is responsible for the entire cost of the testing and cleanup of the contaminated sites that includes Elmira High School (formerly Southside High School).

Testing of the Coldbrook Creek area is scheduled during the months of September and October.

Below you can read the entire letter, Site Access Agreement and map attachment that was sent to Chemung County Legislator Rodney J. Strange, whose property is one that will be tested. Legislator Strange has lived and owned the property  being tested for the past 51 years.
