On November 12th, the Chemung County Legislature passed a resolution in support of establishing a Southern Tier Office of Mental Health “Regional Centers of Excellence” model and thereby keeping the Elmira Psychiatric Center open for inpatient clients.
“It is extremely important to our region and county that we keep the Elmira Psychiatric Center open for our residents to use and ensure they receive adequate mental health treatment,” Chemung County Legislator Rodney J. Strange said after the meeting.
The Elmira Psychiatric Center is one of the top performing hospitals in the Office of Mental Heath relative to access, quality and productivity, providing timely access to educational, clinic and recovery services. Elmira ranks #3 in OMH adult inpatient access, outperforming all but one proposed “RCE’s” “I will continue to fight alongside Sen. O’Mara and Assemblymen Friend and Palmesano to keep the Elmira Psychiatric Center open for inpatient treatment,” Strange said.
A rally in support of keeping the Elmira Psychiatric Center will be held on Saturday, November 23rd at 10:00am until noon at the Clemens Center in Elmira. The public is urged to attend and show support for the EPC.
