Chemung County now owns the old Wellsburg Diner that has been vacant since the flood in 2011.
“It has been an eyesore and safety hazard that unfortunately until the county took ownership of through foreclosure, we could do nothing about,” said Chemung County Legislator Rodney J. Strange. “We are now in the process of preparing the building for demolition and the removal of the old gas tanks that sit underneath it. I am working with our county officials to get this torn down and cleaned up for the residents of Wellsburg,” Strange said.
It will take a few months before the entire project is completed.
