The New York State Department of Transportation today announced that work will begin Tuesday, May 29, 2018, on East Avenue bridge over I-86 in the City of Elmira, Chemung County.
East Avenue bridge will be closed to traffic on May 31, 2018. Motorists will be required to follow detour by way of Sullivan Street, Lake Road, County Route 51, and County Route 52 at Watercure Hill Road. The closure will last for approximately five months with project completion in November. This closure is to replace the bridge over I-86 and make safety improvements to the approaches. Work for this project will be performed by Economy Paving Company of Cortland, New York.
Motorists are reminded that fines are doubled for speeding in a work zone. In accordance with the Work Zone Safety Act of 2005, convictions of two or more speeding violations in a work zone could result in the suspension of an individual’s driver license.
