News “Chemung County Saves Residents More than $1 Million with ProAct Prescription Discount Card” Friday, October 18, 2013
ELMIRA – The ProAct Prescription Discount Card Program is designed to provide individuals with little or no prescription coverage access to affordable medications. Since Chemung County implemented the discount card back in November of 2009, residents have collectively filled more than 26,000 prescriptions and saved more than $1 million.
By working closely with ProAct, Chemung County joined the growing list of counties across the country that have been able to provide their residents, regardless of age, income or existing health care coverage, access to affordable prescriptions. Every resident in the county is eligible to utilize the program. The discount card cannot be used in conjunction with any form of insurance to discount co-pays or deductibles. All prescriptions are eligible for a discount, including some pet medications. On average, residents can expect to see savings ranging from 10-20% on name brand medications and 20-70% on generic medications. Simply present the discount card at your local pharmacy when filling your prescription to start saving. To ensure the discount card is accepted at your local pharmacy, or if you would like to price out your medications, please visit www.NYRxDiscountCard.com. You can also contact the ProAct Help Desk at 1-877-776-2285.
“This program is sure to help all residents in the county, not just those who are uninsured,” said Tom Santulli, Chemung County Executive. “We encourage every resident, regardless of their health care coverage, to keep a card on-hand to ensure they will not have to pay full cash price for a prescription.”
Chemung County Legislator Rodney J. Strange says the card saved him hundreds of dollars when he had no prescription insurance coverage. “When I had no prescription coverage and was on eight different medications, this card’s discounts were very beneficial to me. The out of pocket cost for prescriptions can be prohibitive to those with no or limited prescription coverage. I recommend this card to everyone regardless of whether they have coverage or not,” Strange said. “It can be used in conjunction with your current coverage if you already have insurance to possibly get an additional discount,” Strange noted.
This Prescription Discount Card Program does not require applications or enrollment fees to participate. The program is completely free to taxpayers, the County and to participating residents. If a resident has lost their discount card or if they need an additional card, extras are available at the Department of Social Services, the Health Department, the Hazlett Building or at any participating pharmacy in the county. If residents have access to the internet, they can also obtain a Chemung County discount card by visiting, www.NYRxDiscountCard.com.
