Legislator Strange announced today that Congressman Nick Langworthy has confirmed that the Social Security office in Chemung County will NOT be closed.
Here is the full statement from the Congressman:
“There has been a lot of misinformation, but I want to set the record straight based on confirmation directly from the SSA that the Horseheads office will not be closing, nor will there be any reductions in staff. They are simply terminating the lease of an additional space that was once used for hearings and is no longer needed. Terminating this lease for unused space will have zero impact on the office’s operations, but it will save taxpayer dollars that are being wasted on an empty space. I will always fight to protect seniors’ Social Security benefits and accessibility to this critical federal office, but it’s important to separate the facts from the fiction and those who want to advance their political agenda.”
Strange has been working with the Congressman and his Senior staff to seek solutions to keep the office open for county resident.
“I’m proud to have worked with the Congressman and his Senior staff to help them understand the importance of keeping this office open somewhere in Chemung County. I don’t know where that office will be located in the future but it will be here, in Chemung County,” Strange said.
