The ProAct Prescription Discount Card Program is designed to provide individuals with little or no prescription coverage access to affordable medications.  Since Chemung County implemented the discount card back in November of 2009, residents have collectively filled more than 35,010 prescriptions and saved more than $1.3 million.

Erison Rodriguez, Sales and Marketing Director for the Pro-Act Prescription Drug Discount Card Program, recently attended a meeting of the Chemung County Legislature’s Budget Committee and updated legislators on the program’s features.

Chemung County is among the 51 counties across New York State who exclusively endorse the Prescription Discount Card Program. Combined, these counties have saved residents across the state more than $208 million while filling more than 5.2 million prescriptions. The discount card program is currently saving residents an average of 57%, or just over $43.60. Residents, regardless of age, income or existing health care coverage, are eligible to utilize the program. The discount card cannot be used in conjunction with any form of insurance to discount co-pays or deductibles.

15th District Legislator Rodney J. Strange urges residents to take advantage of this benefit card and use it to save money on prescription medication.  “I encourage county residents who have no prescription medication coverage or  who are underinsured to use this card to save money on their prescriptions,” Strange said.  “It is very costly if you have no coverage and this program can help considerably with prescription costs.”

The ProAct card can also be used to help pay for some pet medications and can provide discounts on eye exams, glasses, and hearing aids. Discount cards can be used at any participating pharmacy in the county. Residents in Chemung County are saving an average of 56 percent on every prescription being filled with the discount card program. On average, residents can expect to see savings ranging from 10-20% on name brand medications and 20-70% on generic medications.  Simply present the discount card at your local pharmacy when filling your prescription to start saving.  To ensure the discount card is accepted at your local pharmacy, or if you would like to price out your medications, please visit www.NYRxDiscountCard.com.  You can also contact the ProAct Help Desk at 1-877-776-2285.

“This program is sure to help all residents in the county, not just those who are uninsured,” said Tom Santulli, Chemung County Executive.  “We encourage every resident, regardless of their health care coverage, to keep a card on-hand to ensure they will not have to pay full cash price for a prescription.”

This Prescription Discount Card Program does not require applications or enrollment fees to participate.  The program is completely free to taxpayers, the County and to participating residents.  If a resident has lost their discount card or if they need an additional card, extras are available at the Department of Social Services, the Health Department, the Hazlett Building or at any participating pharmacy in the county.  In addition, residents can also obtain a Chemung County discount card by visiting, www.NYRxDiscountCard.com
