The New York State Department of Taxation and Finance has announced that the quarterly slaes tax revenue for Chemung County has grown 6% in the last quarter during the July through September period.
“We’re up 6.05 percent year to date, and that is exceptional because last year, we led the state in slaes tax growth at 13.5 percent,” said Tom Santulli, Chemung County Executive. “So that was a record year. Now we’re trending up from that number. I attribute a significant part to the natural gas industry. We have over 1 million square feet of space in Chemung County leased or owned by gas companies,” he said “And as of today, there are 26 companies that are directly involved in the natural gas industry operating in Chemung County. You take the natural gas industry, CVS is hiring, CAF USA is hiring. Sikorsky has over 800 people. Hillard’s business in very good. DeMet’s Candy, Synthes, all ther employment numbers are up,” Santulli said. “Business is good, and people don’t spend unless they are working.”
Chemung County Legislator Rodney J. Strange (R-15) says Santulli is the reason for the growth in sales tax numbers. “I attribute the outstanding economic progress being made in Chemung County to the strong leadership of County Executive Tom Santulli and his administration. We are in this position as a county because Tom Santulli has led the way at bringing jobs and economic growth here to Chemung County,” Strange said.
