Chemung County has begun vaccination for the COVID-19 virus and has begun setting up community vaccination sites throughout the county.
The first vaccine distribution center has been set up in Elmira, for the County of Chemung. It’s the first of its kind for the county. The vaccination station is centrally located, right in the heart of the county seat in Elmira. People in group 1A will be able to get vaccinated at the Arctic League on West Clinton Avenue. The Arctic League was chosen for several reasons, partly because of their central location, making it easy to get to, and the fact that they have the space to do vaccinations. The first doses of the vaccine will be handed out to people in the 1A group first thing Friday morning, Jan. 8th.
The county is looking for a location for a second POD, so they can work on that and get that open hopefully in the next two weeks.
