The Chemung County Legislature approved a resolution at its June 10th meeting establishing a Term Limit Advisory Committee on behalf of the Chairman of the legislature, Dave Manchester.

The committee is expected to gather information from other counties who have implemented term limits and study the terms, implementations and affects of term limits in those counties.

The committee is expected to make a recommendation later this year to the full legislature as to whether term limits should be considered and  the length and conditions that those should be implemented.  If term limits are recommended, a referendum would have to go before the voters at a November general election to be approved.

Legislator Rodney J. Strange is currently conducting an online Facebook poll to gauge the public’s opinion as to whether they support term limits for legislators and if they would vote for a referendum if one is ever placed on the ballot.  Results will be released at the conclusion of the poil on June 24th.
