Chemung County Legislator Rodney J. Strange has been recognized by the American Red Cross as one of its Premier Blood Partners for 2019, a prestigious honor, for his support of the community and national blood supply.

Last year, Legislator Strange helped the Red Cross collect 64 blood donations as part of his deep rooted commitment to help save lives of patients facing illnesses and injuries in this community. and across the country.  “I’m proud to be a part of the Red Cross mission that helps ensure lifesaving blood is available for hospital patients in need,” Strange said.  “The people who took part in the Summer and Thanksgiving Blood Drives here in the 15th legislative district share that same humanitarian value to help our neighbors, and we are grateful for the opportunity to host blood drives that will do just that here in our community.”

Every day, volunteer blood and platelet donors across the country are needed to help save lives. Blood and platelets are needed for accident and burn victims, heart surgery and organ transplant patients, and those receiving treatment for leukemia, cancer or sickle cell disease, according to the Red Cross.

This year’s 15th legislative district Summer Blood Drive is scheduled for Thursday, July 11th and the Thanksgiving Blood Drive will be held on Tuesday, November 19th at the Southport Fire Station from 1 to 6 pm.  As always, every presenting donor will receive a gift card for a free order of chicken wings from the Elbow Room.

“I encourage the community to join us again this year to give the gift of life. The donation process only takes about an hour and can make an enormous difference for a patient battling illness or injury. We will have more machines and additional staff to help accommodate the large turnout,” Strange said.
